Bega Falls, located at Purok 5 in Barangay Mabuhay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, which is approximately 16 kilometers away from the town’s center Barangay Poblacion. Bega Falls relates the story of a lady who was so beautiful and alluring who walked and traversed the waterfalls daily in the land where the Bega Falls is to this day. Her angelic face and long hair captured the attention who saw her and caused chaos to men interested on her when on a fateful day she was abducted and hid her in a secluded part of the “Sampaw” (vernacular of waterfalls), her long hair was cut then raped and killed by the man who has great lust on her. The news broke with negative point of views, people thought her ways are seducements which led to her tragic demise. Bega (vernacular) literally means strong sexual desire or lust, thus, from that time then, the waterfalls was named Bega because of the evolvement of lustful thoughts and memories behind it.

Bega Falls is a 4 tiered waterfalls system, each tier has different characteristics and features situated in the heart of Bega River system starting from the water head source at Sitio Ugnop near the Puting Bato Peak in the mountains of Barangay Mabuhay. One can get there by car or other types of vehicle via the Daang Maharlika/ National Highway through the junction of Awa-Los Arcos Road going to Lianga, Surigao del Sur. Commuters may take single motorcycle transport services which are available daily from Barangay Poblacion going to Barangay Mabuhay and vice-versa.
